Although I like to believe I’m a productive person, I do sometimes struggle too. And right now I’m struggling to be anywhere near productive.
I’m tired almost all the time, even though I’ve been sticking to a good sleep schedule, and I spend my days switching between watching 10 episodes of Ru Paul’s Drag Race and playing video games.
This time a few weeks ago I was in a “I can conquer the world” sort of mindset, and I know I need to get back to that, because I have so much work I need to do, both academically and creatively. Everything at the moment feels like such much effort, and like I said, I’m too tired to focus.
So how can I get back to kicking the worlds ass? I’m still getting SOME work done, I’ve filmed a few videos for YouTube and now I’m sat here writing this blog post to try and get me through my unproductive days, because then I don’t feel as bad about binge watching my favourite Netflix shows. So here’s my top tips for getting back to productivity.
BE PRODUCTIVE IN ANYWAY YOU CAN
I find that if I can tidy my house, read my academic reading lists, or work out I feel like I can be more productive. Anyway of getting me out of the slump is a way to get me back to productivity. If you’re already working hard on something then it’s so much easier to get the important work done.
WRITE A “TO-DO” LIST
Now, this is something I struggle with. I mentally always know what I have to do, and when I need to get it done by – but I’ve come to realise that if I write it down on sticky note and put it on my bedroom mirror, I will accomplish those things. I’ve started writing a to-do list everyday and I’ve started working a lot harder because I know exactly what I need to get done to feel happy with my day.
IF IN DOUBT, MOVE
I tend to do all my work in my office space. but it’s always a mess and I’m always getting distracted by my library collections. Tonight, I’m sat here writing this in my living room, and I feel more inclined to work. It’s only a slight change. I’m able to spread my work around my living room table, I have water and I have bright lights, which keep me awake and active (something my office space doesn’t achieve.)
If I’m not in University or going to meetings I stay at home and I will most probably not get dressed. I know that’s lazy, but if I’ve got no where to go, I won’t get changed. But I’ve found one way to boost my productivity is simply by getting dressed. If I get up and I force myself to put on decent clothes, I feel like I’m ready for my day and I can get my productivity to skyrocket.
DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP
It’s okay to have slumps. Sometimes it’s necessary. We’re allowed to have breaks and we’re allowed to be lazy sometimes, it’s all apart of life. You just need to know when you’re ready to jump back into gear you can, and hopefully some of these tips can help you do that.
