I’ve recently gone through the worlds biggest skin trouble. Especially when it comes to hormonal acne. Every month I can say for certain that my chin (specifically) will be covered for about 2 weeks straight. I’ve spent 99% of my adult life trying to find a product that may/may not help with my skin, these past few months I’ve been trying a selection of Mario Badescu products and here’s my thoughts.
I tried four masks and a oil free moisturiser (come through oily skin.) I bought all these items on Beauty Bay. So, basically these items consisted of some yays and some nays.
- Oil-free Moisturiser: £18.50
The oil-free moisturiser (pardon the pun) felt extremely oily. It made my skin excessively oily and my make up ended up sliding off my face and onto everything and anyone I was near. Honestly my Nivea oil free moisturiser will always be my favourite. So I really didn’t like this product. For the price I felt a little let down, the packaging is fairly small, but I couldn’t use much as the product was so oily. I used this moisturiser everyday for two weeks and I found it broke me out even more, even when my hormonal acne was faded. I would not re-purchase and I would highly recommend NOT buying this if you’re prone to oily/excessive break outs on your skin.
- Whitening Mask: £20.50
I basically bought this mask because I suffer from psoriasis I scar very easily. Therefore, all my hormonal acne has created dark brown scars on my chin that are unsightly when I don’t wear a light BB cream of even foundation. The consistency is very light and I found it needed to be applied with a foundation brush for the maximum result. It dries quickly (around 10/15 minutes), however it’s a little bit of a pain to remove. It takes me a good 5 minutes to completely remove the mask, but when it is removed, my skin feels cleaner and my spot scaring has been slightly reduced. I wouldn’t say the change is that dramatic it warrants a £20 price tag, but the mask itself smells amazing and it does improve the time it takes to reduce redness. I’d buy it again, if I needed a quick fix.
- Drying Mask: £16.50
Now, this mask is a dream. It doesn’t smell the best but it works. A lot of people swear by the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion for the ultimate acne solution, however, I swear by the mask. I’m a face mask connoisseur, so when I found this one I had to give it a try. Like a lot of his other masks I needed to apply this one with a brush to get an even layer (and to stop it drying on my fingers.) It dries quickly and you can feel it tightening your skin. When washed off (which doesn’t take as long as the whitening mask for me) my acne is visibly reduced and my skin looks 100x better than it did before. For the price, I honestly feel like this is such a good deal.
- Healing & Soothing Mask: £16.00
I only bought this mask because it was recommended with the Drying Mask for recovering and repair of your skin. Now, this mask does smell good, and the packaging states to use it between using the DM. It moisturises my skin where the DM dries up my skin and my acne. This mask restores some of the moisture and makes my skin feel a lot nicer. I don’t use it as much as I should because I find that my skin reacts if I use it too many times. I probably wouldn’t buy this again, as long as you use a decent moisturiser and keep your skin nice, the Drying Mask will be find on it’s own.
- Super Collagen Mask: £18.50
This was the most recent addition to my Mario Badescu collection and I bought it because of what it said on the website. Beauty Bay says:
“This Collagen and clay based mask is designed to tighten, nourish and purify skin.”
Now, it smells good, it dries quickly, and it makes my skin feel tightened. It provides that light and sort of brightens my skin after my weeks of hormonal acne overdose. I wouldn’t say it’s the best clay mask I have ever owned, but it’s no where near the worst, but I probably wouldn’t buy it again.
So there we go. I live by the Whitening and the Drying Masks from Mario Badescu and I will most definitely be buying them again and again because they soothe and help my skin when I’m having terrible skin days. So what do you guys think?
Are you a Mario lover or hater? And do you have any skin products you can’t live without?
