Are you guys ready for another anime recommendations from your favourite Welsh weeb? This month has been a slow anime month for me, but that didn’t stop me from finding new/old shows to fall in love with and binge on my days off.
I’ve been recommended a few of these from some of my other weeb friends, and I’m always down for trying out new shows, no matter how weird or wonderful they are – so make sure you leave me a comment down below with your current favourite shows.
Keijo!!! is a very interesting pick if I do say so myself. When I was told to watch this and I looked it up, I didn’t have any words for what I saw but I was give reassurance from more than one person that even though it looks… weird… it’s good, and boy were they right – after all some of the best anime are the weird ones, right?
Keijo!!! also known as Hip Whip Girl is an sports anime about the fictional women-only sport of keijo, where players stand on floating platforms and aim to incapacitate or push their opponent into the water, using only their breasts and buttocks. It centres around Nozomi Kaminashi, and her journey from student to a professional keijo player.
It only has one season, and I’m not holding my breathe for a second season seeing how things how going sales wise in Japan. But if wishes do come true, I’ll get another season.
I don’t really have much to say about this one so far because I’m only a couple of episodes in, but what I have seen I enjoy.
Overlord is difficult to explain but with a little help from Wiki, let me try… In the year 2126, a DMMORPG called Yggdrasil was released. After an intense 12-year run the game servers are about to be shut down. Within the game exist a guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, once consisting of 41 members and credited as one of the strongest guilds in the game. Now only 4 of the members remain, the other 37 having quit the game.
When the shut-down time arrives however, Momonga finds that the game hasn’t vanished. Momonga begins exploring the world in an attempt to figure out what has happened while searching for anyone, or anything, that could help him solve this mystery.
Does that make sense? If not, just go and watch it, you won’t regret it.
If you watch anime you’re going to have heard of, and have most probably watched Attack on Titan. I’m late to the party as always, but at least I’ve shown up.
Attack on Titan revolves around the adventures of Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend Armin Arlert who once lived in the town of Shinganshina. But when Wall Maria is breached by the Colossal Titan, the Armored Titan further compromising the town, chaos ensued as the Titans enter Shinganshina with a mass evacuation.
It’s one of the most animes I have watched in a long time and it really is worth the hype – but this is coming from someone who falls in love with anime boys more easily than real life boys, sad right?
Talking about cute anime boys, Free! offers me everything I need when it comes to that particular category.
It’s all about the adventures of four boys – Haruka, Makoto, Nagisa and Rin. After elementary school they all participated in a swimming tournament and won, though they parted ways afterwards. Years later, Haruka and Makoto reunite with Nagisa when he enrolls in their high school and the boys create a swimming club – thus the Iwatobi Swim club is created.
It’s really cute, entertaining and it’s one of those that you can watch and not have to think so much – which is always good for me.
